Job Description
A school district in Santee, California is seeking a qualified Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) for a full‑time, school‑based contract. This position serves K–12 students and focuses on providing healthcare support, managing student medical needs, and promoting a safe and healthy school environment. The ideal candidate is experienced in supporting students with chronic health conditions, including diabetes management.

Responsibilities

Provide direct nursing care and health support services to students
Administer medications, including insulin administration and blood glucose monitoring for students with diabetes
Monitor and respond to diabetic care needs, including recognizing symptoms of hypo‑ and hyperglycemia
Implement and follow Diabetes Medical Management Plans (DMMPs) and Individualized Healthcare Plans (IHPs)
Assist in the development and implementation of IEPs and 504 plans related to student health needs
Respond to medical emergencies and provide appropriate interventions
Maintain accurate student health records, including documentation of insulin dosing and blood sugar levels
Collaborate with school nurses, teachers, administrators, families, and healthcare providers
Support health screenings and assist with school‑wide health initiatives
Ensure compliance with district policies and state regulations


Qualifications

Active California Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license
Experience with or willingness to perform diabetes care and insulin administration
Current CPR and First Aid certification
Ability to pass background checks, fingerprinting, and district clearances
Credentialing support may be available for eligible candidates


Education

Graduate of an accredited vocational nursing program


Experience

Previous experience in a school, pediatric, or clinical setting preferred
Experience supporting students with diabetes or chronic health conditions strongly preferred
New graduates with appropriate licensure are encouraged to apply

Work Hours

Monday–Friday
8:00 AM – 3:30 PM
Approximately 37–40 hours per week
