Step into a vital role supporting surgical care as you assist surgeons and maintain a safe, efficient operating room environment. This contract opportunity is ideal for professionals skilled in Nursing – ORT or Certified Surgical Technology, eager to participate fully in patient care and uphold the highest standards of sterile technique.

Schedule:

  • Flexible work hours: choose either 5 eight-hour shifts or 4 ten-hour shifts per week, with daily shifts ending at 11:30 pm (options include 3 pm–11:30 pm or 1 pm–11:30 pm)
  • Call requirement: one weekend every 3–4 weeks (Saturday and Sunday evening shifts, ending by 11:30 pm)
  • Additional 1–2 night call shifts weekly (11:30 pm–7 am), typically following your scheduled weekend shift
  • Key Qualifications:

  • Current certification as a Surgical Technologist or equivalent ORT nursing skills
  • Demonstrated expertise in sterile technique and infection control
  • Strong ability to anticipate surgeon needs and assist with gowning, gloving, draping, and instrument management
  • Solid understanding of surgical instruments, supplies, and accurate count protocols
  • Primary Responsibilities:

  • Maintain aseptic conditions throughout procedures, ensuring patient and team safety
  • Prepare operative fields by organizing and managing instruments, sponges, and equipment
  • Assist with surgical tasks such as passing instruments, retracting, suctioning, and handling specimens
  • Support effective surgical team communication, participating as both a resource and a learner with experienced OR staff
  • Expedite efficient OR turnover between cases and support the RN circulator with equipment checks and hazard identification
  • Participate in the department’s rotating call schedule
