An exciting opportunity is available for compassionate and skilled Registered Nurses (RN) or Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurses (LPN/LVN) to provide 1:1 private duty care for students in a school setting. This contract position involves working closely with a student who commutes from Buffalo, MN, to Monticello and requires comprehensive medical support throughout the school day and during transportation.

Schedule flexibility is essential, with shifts running Monday through Friday, from approximately 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, in alignment with the Monticello District academic calendar. The nurse will accompany the student on the bus both to and from school, ensuring continuity of care during the 20-minute commute each way and while at the school from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM.

Key Qualifications & Experience:

  • Current RN or LPN/LVN license in Minnesota
  • Experience in school nursing or pediatric private duty (preferred)
  • Strong skills in tube feeding and oxygen management, including $O_2$ saturation monitoring and supplemental oxygen application
  • Proficient in medication administration for pediatric clients
  • Ability to use adaptive equipment, such as Hoyer lifts and standers (training provided on the student’s equipment)
  • Homecare background is a plus, though not required
  • Dependable, patient, and able to respond quickly in a dynamic environment
  • Primary Duties:

  • Deliver direct nursing care, monitoring the student’s medical status consistently
  • Administer prescribed medications and manage tube feeding safely
  • Assist with all necessary transfers, supporting mobility through lifting devices
  • Monitor oxygen saturation and apply oxygen per protocol
  • Ensure safety and comfort during bus transportation, providing care as needed
  • In addition, coverage is needed for a similar 1:1 nursing assignment with a high school student on Mondays.
