Availability Needed: Summer 2026 and/or 2026–2027 School Year

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) to provide one-on-one nursing support for a kindergarten-aged student in Liverpool, NY. This position offers the opportunity to support a student throughout the school day while helping ensure her health, safety, and successful participation in the educational environment.

Schedule Options

Summer Program

July 6, 2026 – August 14, 2026

Monday – Friday

Student hours: 8:15 AM – 11:30 AM

2026–2027 School Year

September 8, 2026 – June 24, 2027 (approximate)

Monday – Friday

Student hours: 9:15 AM – 3:45 PM

Candidates may be available for the summer program, the school year assignment, or both.

Position Overview

The RN will provide dedicated 1:1 nursing care for a female student entering first grade who was recently diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. The student also has Autism Spectrum Disorder and is verbal, primarily communicating through echolalia (repeating words and phrases she hears).

The nurse's primary role is to manage the student's medical needs and ensure her health and safety during the school day. This position is focused on nursing care and medical support and is not a classroom instructional role.

Responsibilities

Provide individualized nursing care throughout the school day.

Monitor and manage the student's Type 1 Diabetes in accordance with physician orders and the student's healthcare plan.

Perform blood glucose monitoring and administer insulin and other diabetes-related interventions as required.

Recognize and respond to signs and symptoms of hypo- and hyperglycemia.

Maintain accurate nursing documentation and health records.

Collaborate with school staff, parents/guardians, and healthcare providers to ensure continuity of care.

Support the student's safe participation in classroom activities, meals, specials, and school routines.

Respond appropriately to medical emergencies and health-related concerns.

Qualifications

Current New York State Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing.

Experience with pediatric nursing preferred.

Experience managing Type 1 Diabetes strongly preferred.

School nursing, special education, or one-on-one nursing experience preferred.

Current CPR/BLS certification.

Strong communication, critical thinking, and organizational skills.

Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with school personnel and families.
